As times change and parents begin to reflect on their childhood, many have come to realize that they were not able to express their emotions. They were often taught to suppress their feelings and even as adults, they find it difficult to fully recognize and express how they are feeling. Many of these parents want different for their children and are looking for effective and practical ways to help begin conversations around emotions with their children. They want to foster a more open emotional environment with their children.
I have written a book, “It is Okay to Feel How You Feel”, that will help parents and adults who work with and are around children do just that. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is start the conversation. I have enlisted the assistance of Tessa Thompson, Clinical Therapist, APSW, SAC-IT to talk about effective ways to incorporate this book into the emotional learning process.
We will facilitate a guided discussion on ways to incorporate, “It is Okay to Feel How You Feel” into shaping children’s emotional intelligence as well as ways to begin conversations about emotions. We will then open the conversation to members in the audience to answer any questions they may have.
